An iconic building on Barcelona’s new waterfront
Maremàgnum is located in Moll d’Espanya, connected to Moll de la Fusta and Portal de la Pau via Rambla de Mar, a 380-meter-long wooden walkway over the water.
It is the result of the transformation and recovery of Barcelona’s coastline, which began in the 1980s in preparation for the Barcelona '92 Olympic Games. Between the 80s and 90s, the rehabilitation of the old port of Barcelona began, turning Moll d’Espanya into a leisure space that now houses the Aquàrium and Maremàgnum, which was inaugurated in 1995.
In its early years, it was one of the city's nightlife hotspots, but since the 2000s, it has been transformed into a daytime and family-friendly space.
How to get to Maremàgnum?
The Port Vell stop on the Red Route of the Barcelona Tourist Bus drops you off right in front of Maremàgnum.
For the curious
- Access to the shopping center is via a lifting walkway, which opens when a boat needs to enter or exit the yacht club.
